Employee Recognition
Too often organizations focus on the ‘external’ customer, while forgetting that their ‘internal customer’ is as important an asset to the success of any company. A satisfied workforce often leads to higher profitability. Organizations with highly motivated and contented staff generally enjoy higher customer service levels and therefore more satisfied customers.
Just as your clients need to be recognized for their loyalty, so do your employees – your ‘internal customer’. There are many reasons for recognizing and showing appreciation to employee, including service anniversaries, safety awards, reaching or exceeding sales goals, perfect attendance, leadership qualities, etc. Publicly recognizing an employee’s outstanding contribution is a great motivator and morale booster to both to the recognized employee and those who hope to achieve the same recognition through company loyalty and a good work ethic.
Every business is different – every employee is different. Consider the type of recognition award your staff will truly appreciate. It may be a trophy, plaque or special pin; perhaps some type of apparel like a hat or jacket notating the type of ‘award’ on the brim or back would be more appropriate. Be sure to include the employee’s name on the front of a jacket. It sends a strong message that you really made an effort to make the gift memorable and special.
